چکیده

BACKGROUND This study was to investigate the pathological significance of protein expression of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP1) and matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP3) in colon tissues of remission patients of steroid-dependent uncreative colitis (SDUC). METHODS To test the possible involvement of MMP-1 and MMP-3 in SDUC, Western- blot and immunohistochemistry were applied to examine the protein expression of MMP-1 and MMP-3 in the colonic healing region from 10 remission patients with SDUC as well as from 10 remission patients with non-SDUC. Ten specimens from normal colon tissues were used as controls. RESULTS Compared with the control group, the protein expression of MMP-1 and MMP-3 from non-SDUC remission patients slightly increased (p > 0.05), in contrast, those from SDUC patients significantly increased (p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS Over-expression of MMP-1 and MMP-3 play a critical role in the pathogenesis of SDUC.

Evaluation of 5 versus 10 granulocyteaphaeresis sessions in steroid-dependent ulcerative colitis: a pilot, prospective, multicenter, randomized study.

AIM To evaluate the efficacy of 5 compared to 10 granulocyteaphaeresis sessions in patients with active steroid-dependent ulcerative colitis. METHODS In this pilot, prospective, multicenter randomized trial, 20 patients with moderately active steroid-dependent ulcerative colitis were randomized to 5 or 10 granulocyteaphaeresis sessions. The primary objective was clinical remission at wk 17. S...

Infliximab in the treatment of steroid-dependent ulcerative colitis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Infliximab has proven efficacious in the treatment of Crohn's disease. Limited and contrasting data are available on effectiveness of anti-TNF alpha therapy in ulcerative colitis. We evaluated the efficacy of infliximab in the management of steroid-dependent ulcerative colitis. METHODS We report preliminary data from a randomized, open-label, methylprednisolone-contr...

Serum Interleukin-23 Levels in Patients with Ulcerative Colitis

Background: Patients with ulcerative colitis are at increased risk of inflammation. Interleukin 23 (IL-23) is a newly identified cytokine with increased expression in inflamed biopsies of colon mucosa in patients with Crohn's disease; however, there is inconsistent evidence on its role in ulcerative colitis. Objective: We aimed to compare serum IL-23 level in patients with ulcerative colitis an...

Granulocyte-Monocyte Apheresis in Steroid-Dependent, Azathioprine-Intolerant/Resistant Moderate Ulcerative Colitis: A Prospective Multicenter Study

Background Granulocyte-monocyte apheresis has been proposed for the treatment of ulcerative colitis, although it is limited by costs and variability of results. Aim To assess effectiveness of granulocyte-monocyte apheresis in patients with steroid-dependent, azathioprine-intolerant/resistant moderate ulcerative colitis. Methods Consecutive patients fulfilling inclusion criteria were prospec...

Randomised clinical trial: a phase 1, dose‐ranging study of the anti‐matrix metalloproteinase‐9 monoclonal antibody GS‐5745 versus placebo for ulcerative colitis

BACKGROUND Matrix metalloproteinase-9 is a proteolytic enzyme whose expression is increased in ulcerative colitis. AIM To evaluate the safety and efficacy of GS-5745, a fully humanised anti-matrix metalloproteinase-9 monoclonal antibody, in moderately-to-severely active ulcerative colitis. METHODS We randomised 74 patients with ulcerative colitis to treatment with single or multiple ascendi...
